Project Description

The work involves the following major item (s): Installation of approximately 7,200 linear feet of 8” and 6” ductile iron water main, approximately 2,100 linear feet of HDPE service piping, fittings, fire hydrants, ductile iron gate valves, temporary water main bypass and other related water system work on Pringle Street, Pomfret Road, County Road, Grove Street, South Street and Salem Road. Additional work includes approximately 550 tons of temporary trench paving, 1,900 tons of permanent trench paving and all other related work as specified.

Project Updates

August 21, 2025

The water main on Pringle Street has been installed, pressure tested, sample tested, and turned back on. This week Commonwealth Construction & Utilities has been installing individual water services and connecting the new water main to the side streets that intersect with Pringle Street including Baldwin Street, Hill Street Extension, and Barbara D. Lane. Individual water services are almost complete for the second phase of the project. Next week, the temporary water bypass will start to be dismantled to prepare for the end of this project.

Residents within the Pringle Street area have been sent notices to schedule appointments with the DPW Water Division for a MANDATORY water service line, and water meter flushing before they are put back on Town water. RESIDENTS WITHIN THE PRINGLE STREET AREA THAT DO NOT SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS WITH THE DPW WATER DIVISION WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE NOTICE THEY RECEIVED WILL BE WITHOUT WATER UNTIL THE APPOINTMENT IS SCHEDULED AND THE WATER SERVICE LINE FLUSHING IS COMPLETED.

July 7, 2025

Water Main installation for Phase One of the Pringle Street & County Road Water Main Improvement Project has been completed. All water services on County Road, Idlewild Road, Grove Street, and Pomfret Road have been completed. Residents within this area have received notices to schedule appointments with the DPW Water Division for a MANDATORY water service line flushing before they are put back on Town water.  RESIDENTS WITHIN THE COUNTY ROAD, IDLEWILD ROAD, GROVE STREET, AND POMFRET ROAD AREA THAT DO NOT SCHEDULE APPOINTMENTS WITH THE DPW WATER DIVISION WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE NOTICE THEY RECIEVED WILL BE WITHOUT WATER UNTIL THE APPOINTMENT IS SCHEDULED AND THE WATER SERVICE LINE FLUSHING IS COMPLETED.

 This week, Commonwealth Construction & Utilities has begun to dismantle the temporary bypass water main along County Road, Idlewild Road, Grove Street, and Pomfret Road in order to relocate it to Pringle Street to begin the second phase of the water main replacement project.  Commonwealth Construction & Utilities will begin to connect residents to the temporary bypass water main in preparation for the water main installation that will run from Pringle Street at South Street to Pringle Street at County Road.  During Phase 2 of the construction project, Pringle Street will be open only to Emergency Vehicles, School Buses, Delivery Vehicles, and local residents. 

June 13, 2025

The water main on County Road, Grove Street, and Pomfret Road has been installed, pressure tested, sample tested and turned back on. Individual water services are almost complete for the first phase of the project. Next week, the temporary water bypass will start to be broken down to be moved over and set up on Pringle Street, for Phase II of the Water Main Project. Residents in the affected area, County Road, are still on temporary water and will continue to be until the services have been completed. Bypass will begin to be set up on Pringle Street and will be open only to Emergency Vehicles, School Busses, Delivery Vehicles, and residents.

June 2, 2025

Water main has been installed on County Rd, Grove St, and Pomfret Rd. Individual water services are scheduled to begin next week. Residents in the affected area are still on temporary water and will continue to be until the new water main has been fully installed, sampled, and tested to make sure that the water is safe for consumption. County Road is open only to Emergency Vehicles, School Busses, Delivery Vehicles, and residents.

May 6, 2025

Water main installation has begun and has been installed on County Road from the intersection at Salem Road up until 85 County Road. Residents in the affected area are still on temporary water and will continue to be until the new water main has been fully installed, sampled, and tested to make sure that the water is safe for consumption. County Road is open only to Emergency Vehicles, School Busses, Delivery Vehicles, and residents. 

April 4, 2025

CONSTRUCTION NOTICE

Starting Monday, April 7th, 2025, construction will begin on County Road for water distribution system upgrades. Work hours are Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, excluding Town observed holidays. Crews will start work on County Road only this Monday; work on Pringle Street will begin later in the project. 

Road closures are not anticipated as part of this project. There will be police details on site with one-lane two-way alternating traffic. Delays should be expected, and motorists are advised to plan ahead for these delays and avoid the area if possible. 

Anticipated Construction Dates

Work is anticipated to begin the week of April 7, and be completed by the end of November 15, 2025.

Typical Work Hours

Monday to Friday from 7:00AM to 3:30PM, excluding holidays.

Roadway Closure/Detour Information

Road closures are not anticipated as part of this project. There will be police details on site with one-lane two-way alternating traffic. Delays should be expected, and motorists are advised to plan ahead for these delays and avoid the area if possible.
