Chandler Well Fields

For decades, Tewksbury relied on pumping stations for its water supply, with 15 operating at the peak of an era that began after WWII, and ended in 1992. Two buildings remain from a network that started in 1941 to supply the state hospital, and eventually expanded to provide water to residents.


One hundred eighteen acres of woodlands and wetlands are accessible from Kevin Street, Euclid Road, and the intersection of Whipple Road and Chandler Streets. Wildlife viewing is especially strong around the marsh. Ancient people visited the Heath Brook seasonally for the marsh grasses and abundant fish.
