Tewksbury has approximately 2,200 fire hydrants around town. Every year funding is appropriated to replace roughly 25 hydrants with new ones. While all hydrants function, currently there are 300 hydrants that are considered older and are due to be replaced. 56 hydrants were replaced in 2015. In addition to replacing old hydrants, new hydrants are being installed in areas where no hydrant exists at the end of water mains. This will enable the DPW to flush those mains every year and improve water quality. Hydrant replacement work is currently ongoing.
