Bayberry Lane Culverts at Heath Brook Bridge Replacement Project

Project DescriptionBayberryCulverts

The Bayberry Lane culverts consist of four 36-inch corrugated metal culverts that carry the Heath Brook under Bayberry Lane, which were installed circa 1993-1994. Since the total overall span of the four culverts exceeds ten feet it is classified as a "Small Bridge" by MassDOT and has been issued Bridge Number #T-03-018. This designation allows the Town to pursue funding through the MassDOT Municipal Small Bridge Program. Town of Tewksbury received a $100,000 Small Bridge Grant from MassDOT to design a replacement for the culverts on Bayberry Lane. The Town has contracted the consulting engineering firm Vanasse Hangen Brustlin (VHB) to design the replacement culvert. As of January 2022, the preliminary design is complete, the environmental permitting process has begun, and permit approvals are anticipated in February 2022. The preliminary design has the existing culvert pipes being replaced with a 15’Wx6.5’H precast concrete box culvert. The permanent culvert replacement is anticipated to occur in the Summer of 2022.
