New Boardwalk Hike

This approximately 200-foot boardwalk was completed in 2016 by a group of dedicated volunteers working toBoardwalk Hike Trail complete a segment of the proposed Bay Circuit Trail (BCT) in Tewksbury, view the New Boardwalk Hike Map (PDF). The idea for the Bay Circuit Trail first arose in 1929 as an 'outer Emerald Necklace' that would be similar to the 'Emerald Necklace' designed by Frederick Law Olmsted that linked beautiful green spaces in Boston.

Today, more than 230 miles of multi-use, the passive recreational trail has been dedicated along the Bay Circuit with Tewksbury being one of the remaining undesignated links along the proposed route. This boardwalk put Tewksbury one step closer to completing their leg of the trail and connecting residents to the abundance of open space resources that exist along the trail.
